Who we are, our executives

Dr Calum Alexander

I am the founder, owner and Chief Executive Officer of Informationalities.

In addition to my overall leadership responsibility for Informationalities, I am Chief Scientific Officer. I head up the development of AiQ, our scalable software solution, to enable our clients to manage the resilience of their organisations.

Our approach at Informationalities draws on my research in applying Artificial Intelligence and Complexity Science to organisation members’ behaviour and how this affects an organisation’s resilience to internal and external turbulence.

Apart from leading software development, my role includes research in Complexity Science, working with my colleagues and our partners to design and analyse research projects to diagnose client problems and consulting to implement solutions for clients.

I have thirty years of experience in business and academia, throughout which I have helped numerous organisations with strategic business challenges.

In 2013, I founded the consulting company Data Science and Analytics. This company focused on generating strategic value from data, drawing on areas such as Artificial Intelligence, Complexity Science, Business Modelling and Enterprise Information Technology.

The success of Data Science and Analytics encouraged me to relaunch the company as Informationalities with an expanded offering of research, consulting and software development to build organisational resilience.

Before founding Data Science and Analytics, I worked from 2007 to 2013 as Chief Scientific Officer for AMEE.cc, a green tech company based in Shoreditch in London.

My role at AMEE.cc to develop Information Technology solutions to integrate senior leadership groups, functional business areas to build the organisation’s solutions and delivery processes.

I hold a PhD in Astrophysics from the University of Glasgow, an MSc in Information Technology from Edinburgh Napier University, a BSc (Hons) in Astrophysics from the University of Edinburgh and a Postgraduate Certificate in Education from the University of Strathclyde.

I was born in Falkirk, Scotland, but now live in Dundee with my wife Fiona, a Consultant Psychologist in the UK National Health Service, our daughter Isla and our two rescue cats Trinny and Susannah.
